Inflow & Infiltration: What is it?
Inflow & Infiltration describes the situation where unwanted water sources find their way into a wastewater system. These sources are storm water (inflow) and groundwater (infiltration) and can be problematic to wastewater systems. This water, which ideally should drain into the ground or be routed to storm drains, can easily overload wastewater systems. And that can cause sewage overflows to creeks, basement backups, and impaired sewer operations.
When groundwater and storm water enter sewer systems treatment plants become overwhelmed. And this can create unplanned expenses. It is important to determine whether an issue is present or imminent. And then determine the best path forward. Finally, a maintenance and CIPP lining plan is the best solution.
Inflow
Inflow is storm water that enters the sewer collection system through direct connections. These connections often include gutters, yard drains, catch basins, manhole covers, sump pumps, foundation tiles and indirect connections with storm sewers.
Inflow happens after precipitation such as rain, snow, or snow melt. And each can contribute to high sewer flows. As a result, hydraulic backups and the pooling of water are often seen. And that is why inflow is generally measured during wet weather.
Infiltration
Infiltration is groundwater that enters the sewer system. Ground water can enter through interceptors, collectors, manholes and side sewers. And it can enter through cracks, leaky pipe joints, connection failures and deteriorated manhole covers. Infiltration amounts vary by season and in response to groundwater levels. The highest infiltration flows often result from significant storms or extended precipitation. So, infiltration is generally measured in wet weather seasons during seasonally high groundwater conditions.

Cured-in-place Pipe (CIPP)
Your city’s sewer and drain system needs to be running at all times. So Manhole to manhole pipe lining eliminates the need for excavating your streets.
Manhole Rehab
Failing manholes are a common weakness within sewer systems. In addition to I & I problems, leaky manholes cause street problems and costly repairs. We can seal your manholes and return their structural integrity with trenchless methods using OBIC rehab systems.
Robotic Cutting
We use industry leading technology to robotically cut and reinstate your pipes from within. And this is safer because human entry is dangerous and prohibitive.
Jetting and Descaling
It is essential for your pipes to be thoroughly cleaned with environmentally-friendly techniques. And that's why we have certified professional for the job.
Cleaning and Televising
Determining the right solution for your municipal pipes is made possible through effective inspection technology. And it starts with a cleaning and televising plan.
